The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (independent; Atlantic League) are experimenting with a shortened game this Thursday, ending after seven innings instead of the usual nine.
It’s also dollar hot-dog night at Regency Furniture Stadium, with season-ticket holders receiving a voucher for a free dog.
Not quite how the success or failure of the experiment will be measured, though the size of the crowd, the increased presence of kids (it’s being marketed as a family-friendly promotion) and the per caps will really be the story. It should save some money for the Blue Crabs; those last two beer-less innings are always a killer.
