Citizens opposing city spending on a new Ramapo (N.Y.) ballpark want to see a public referendum on the proposal, even if it is nonbinding.
The city is proposing the issuance of $16.5 million in bonds for a new ballpark to house an independent Can-Am Association team. The city would also spend $8 million on land for the ballpark project and other city projects.
The referendum would be for show only: the city could go ahead with or without the public approval.
