Christian Guerrero hit five home runs in five consecutive at-bats for the Gary SouthShore RailCats (independent; Northern League) during a Wednesday doubleheader. As far as we can tell this is a record in professional baseball — but no one seems to have noticed.
It's not as though Guerrero is an unknown: he's a cousin to the more famous brother tandem of Vladimir and Wilton Guerrero. The Northern League is an established circuit. The home run came in two games of a doubleheaders (homers in the last two at bats of the first game, the first three at bats of the second game).
As far as we can tell this is a professional record: the MLB mark is four (shared by a slew of players, including Mickey Mantle, Bo Jackson, Shawn Green, Albert Pujols and Johnny Blanchard), and we can't find anyone in the minors approaching the record. The crack RailCats PR staff found a reference to Lloyd McClendon hitting home runs in five consecutive at-bats in the Little League World Series.
UPDATE: This ties a record set in 1996 by Corey Parker of the Bangor Blue Ox of the old Northeast League. Impressive accomplishment, nevertheless. Our readers come through again; thanks!
