Attorney Josh Schaub and real-estate developer Tom Gump — both of Minneapolis — emerged as the potential buyers for the Joliet Slammers (independent; Frontier League), as they met with the City Council about a revised ballpark lease.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Schaub is an attorney specializing in sports law, teaching at Hamline University School of Law while also serving as a scout for the Milwaukee Brewers since 2005. He and Gump met with the Joliet City Council last night in closed session to discuss a restructuring of the Silver Cross Field lease. The pair has not yet closed on a deal to buy the team from Alan Oremus, but we’re guessing it is contingent on receiving lowered rent at the ballpark.
The Council will discuss the new lease on Oct. 11.
