Regents approve Sun Devils move to new Cubs training facility

Arizona State Sun DevilsThe Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team will be sharing a new Mesa spring-training facility with the Chicago Cubs starting in 2014, as the move was approved by the Arizona Board of Regents last night.

The move will cost the athletic department $2 million for the construction of a team clubhouse. In return, according to Spring Training Online, the school will receive the first $1.1 million of gate and concessions revenue before a sharing deal kicks in. That would represent a doubling of the current revenues from Packard Stadium, which would likely be torn down after the move.

The new Wrigleyville West complex is expected to open for Spring Training 2014.
