McLane Stadium, the new home of the Michigan State Spartans, is on schedule for an April 3 opening.
McLane Stadium is scheduled to open April 3 — a very aggressive date for a northern baseball facility — but Michigan State athletic officials say everything is on schedule.
The new ballpark, named for major donor Drayon McLane, the owner of the Houston Astros and MSU alumnus, will cost $4.3 million when all is said and done. In many ways the cold weather of Michigan is helping construction: prep work was done in fall, steel went up in December, and hard freezes have eliminated mud and made the grounds easier to maneuver.
