Fond du Lac Could Snare NWL Team

Northwoods League

Northwoods League team could come to Fond du Lac, WI, if the necessary improvements to Herr-Baker Field can be completed.

As we noted recently, Fond du Lac is in contention for a potential expansion franchise in the summer collegiate circuit. It is also possible that, should the city land the franchise, an affiliated team will be a part of the club’s management

A major contingency in that plan is the renovation of Herr-Baker Field, which is primarily used by Marian University’s baseball program. In order to accommodate a summer collegiate team, several improvements must be made to the ballpark. According to KFIZ.com, Marian University is seeking to expand Herr-Baker Field’s seating to create room for around 2,000 fans, while enhancing the restroom and concession areas, and adding a new press box.

In order to begin work on the renovations, Marian University will need the city to sign off on a special permit. The permit request is set to be heard by the planning commission next Monday and, if recommended, would proceed to the city council.

You can read more about the potential Northwoods League expansion here. The league has taken the step of adding an entry in Bismarck for 2017, and a name the team contest for that franchise is down to the final three candidates.
