Dunn Field spruced up for 2012

Elmira Pioneers

Dunn Field, former home to affiliated and independent baseball in Elmira and now home to the Elmira Pioneers (summer collegiate; Perfect Game League), has been upgraded for the 2012 season.

New co-owner Don Lewis was on hand at the historic ballpark — which opened in 1939 — to unveil roughly $40,000 in renovations: a paint job, new beer garden, new kids’ play area and new seating.

The ballpark needed the work. In recent years basic maintenance has been deferred, with the result a ballpark that was rough around the edges.

“I am pleased to have the season get under way and bring the new coaching staff in and players,” said Lewis, who owns the team with Nellie Franco-Nichols in a purchase that closed last week. “We are very excited about the new face lift and work the great City of Elmira has been conducting to bring a first-class ballpark to our community.”
