As we start planning for the 2020 MLB season, another limited-run brew will be debuting: Goose Island Beer Co. and the Chicago White Sox will be offering Sox Golden Ale at Guaranteed Rate Field and at retailers throughout the city.
As a bonus, those buying Sox Golden Ale at Guaranteed Rate Field will receive a special edition can with a peel-back label revealing the 2020 White Sox game schedule (while supplies last, of course).
The new offering is a lighter (5% AbV) golden ale brewed with three varieties of hops (Brewer’s Gold, Amarillo, Cascade) and two malts (2 row and rye).
The collaboration between the Sox and Goose Island began last season with the installation of The Goose Island in the Guaranteed Rate Field right-field area–yes, it’s literally an island, surrounded on all four sides with running water. In addition, Goose Island sponsors two craft-beer spaces at Guaranteed Rate Field: the bar area next to the visiting bullpen, known as the Goose Island Craft Kave, and a walk-up bar accessible from the 100-level outfield concourse. Within the outfield concourse area, a 10-foot Goose Island tap handle statute will be featured overlooking the ballpark.
“When we unveiled ‘The Goose Island’ last year at Guaranteed Rate Field I didn’t think it could get any better, but then we had the opportunity to brew our first-ever collaboration with the White Sox, Sox Golden Ale, and, truly, my dreams were made,” said Goose Island President Todd Ahsmann. “I’ve been a fan as long as I can remember and can’t wait to crack open a cold one on Opening Day and throughout the season.”
“We were ecstatic when opening ‘The Goose Island’ this past season, and we’re confident this new craft beer collaboration will be the perfect complement to what’s already an incredibly unique gameday experience,” said White Sox Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Brooks Boyer. “The Sox Golden Ale launch is one of the many ways we’re changing the game for White Sox fans this year, and we’re thrilled to have an official craft beer partner that shares this passion for our fans.”
The new beer will be available at Chicago-area retailers in March.
