Tri-City ValleyCats

Matt Callahan, the general manager of the Tri City ValleyCats, has won the 2017 New York-Penn League Robert Stedler Executive of the Year Award. The award was voted on by executives from each of the 14 teams in the New York-Penn League.

“To be recognized by my peers, the many talented and hardworking individuals within the New York-Penn League, is an unbelievable honor, and I am extremely grateful to receive this award,” said Callahan. “With so many deserving candidates, I’m very humbled to have been selected. Thank you to the entire ValleyCats organization, especially Bill Gladstone, Rick Murphy, and our front office. This award is really a testament to the efforts put forth by our staff members to provide a top-notch Minor League Baseball experience for our fans.”

Callahan has served as ValleyCats General Manager since 2015, after spending four seasons as Assistant General Manager. He joined the ValleyCats in 2008 as an Account Executive, and later served as Business Development Manager.

“Matt is highly respected among his peers and throughout the baseball industry,” said Rick Murphy, ValleyCats Chief Operating Officer / Executive Vice President. “Through his leadership and wealth of knowledge, the ValleyCats continue to be one of the premier teams within the NYPL and across Minor League Baseball.”

A native of Hingham, Massachusetts and a 2003 Boston College graduate, Callahan was recently named to the Albany Business Review’s 2017 class of 40 Under 40. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors and is the Youth & Teen Program Committee Chair for the Troy YMCA.

Callahan will be recognized by Minor League Baseball for this honor, at the Opening Session of the Baseball Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida in December.
