New for 2019: St. Croix River Hounds

St Croix River Hounds ballpark

Hudson, WI will soon to be home to a summer-collegiate Northwoods League affiliate, as plans are in place for the St. Croix River Hounds to begin play in 2019.

“The ingredients of this newest Northwoods League team — a uniquely experienced group of owner operators fielding a team in a newly constructed facility that is situated in a great community — make this a very exciting addition to our league,” said Northwoods League President Gary Hoover.  “We are thrilled to be bringing Northwoods League baseball to the St. Croix River Valley area fans, and look forward to welcoming everyone in the 2019 season.”

Hudson is located on the western border of Wisconsin (across from eastern Minnesota), and the St. Croix River Valley encompasses many communities on both sides of the river, including Stillwater, Lake Elmo, Afton and Bayport; one could argue that the larger St. Paul suburb of Woodbury is part of the team’s potential marketing base as well. The team will play at a renovated greyhound racing facility, shuttered for years.

The excitement level from everyone that emailed over the last couple months has been amazing as the ownership group read through hundreds of emails and had almost one thousand team name ideas. After going through all the submissions, the ownership group in Hudson is proud to announce the team name will be the St. Croix River Hounds.

“We are excited to be part of the Northwoods League and in bringing a team to the St. Croix Valley area,” said the ownership group of the River Hounds. “We look forward to providing entertainment for families and individuals of all ages that is fun, safe, and ensures lasting memories at an affordable price.”

There will be a meet & greet in November where fans can see the colors and logos of the new team as well as stadium videos & renderings. Information on season tickets will be available as well.
