Some attendance news from the weekend, as the Tennessee Smokies (Class AA; Southern League) welcomed a record-breaking 7,902 fans to Smokies Stadium on Saturday.
The new record was set the as the Smokies celebrated Star Wars night. As part of the promotion, the Smokies took the field in Han Solo-inspired jerseys, which were auctioned off after the game. In addition, the first 1,000 fans in attendance received a complimentary lightsaber.
With the mark of 7,902, the Smokies cleared their previous single-game record of 7,866. That mark was set on July 24, 2015.
On the field, the Smokies were handed a tough 11-1 loss by the Birmingham Barons. The team turned it around on Sunday, however, winning by a final of 12-4.
