With the bond market still depressed, it doesn't sound like the St. Louis Cardinals will embark on construction of its Ballpark Village development any time soon.
An uncertain bond market and a lack of tenants is forcing the St. Louis Cardinals to once again put off construction of Ballpark Village, the multiuse development next to the new Busch Stadium .
In a speech at a Webster University symposium on the economics of baseball, Bill DeWitt III, president of the St. Louis Cardinals, admitted that construction was unlikely to start on the project in the coming year. The Cardinals and Cordish Co. are the developers on the project, but they're relying on financing from the Missouri Development Finance Board to make the project a go. And there's no indication the board will issue bonds for the project any time soon.
So fans can look forward to playing softball on the former Busch Stadium site for at least another year.
