Brian Cox Named New Greeneville Reds GM

Boyd Sports has made a significant personnel move for the Greeneville Reds (Rookie; Appalachian League), naming Brian Cox as the team’s general manager.

It was recently revealed that Boyd Sports–the organization that owns the Tennessee Smokies (Class AA; Southern League) and that has managed the Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie; Appalachian League) since 2016–will handle the day-to-day operations for the Reds. As it prepares for the 2018 season, Boyd Sports has appointed Cox to the general manager position.

Cox comes to the Reds with previous experience, as he once served as the general manger of the Smokies. More from The Greeneville Sun:

With that move has come the announcement that general manager Paul Kleinhans-Schulz is leaving the team, and that former Tennessee Smokies general manager Brian Cox will be handling those duties in Greeneville.

“Brian comes with a ton of experience. He was the GM with the Smokies for years and is part of our leadership team,” Boyd Sports President and COO Chris Allen said. “We wanted someone with some experience to really plant the seeds in the community and to get things started the right way.

“When it comes to baseball operations and the stadium operations side of things, Brian does not need to learn any of that. When its comes to sales and marketing, we will have people in place to help with that, but Brian knows how to do that too. Brian knows the ins and outs of how to run a baseball team. That is irreplaceable when you are starting a team like this.”

In late January, it was announced that the Reds would take the place the Greeneville Astros at Pioneer Park beginning with the 2018 season.
