Not to be outdone by the Florence Freedom, the Lake County Captains (Low Class A; Midwest League) are first out of the gate with an inevitable Lance Armstrong promotion, announcing “Lancestrong Night” in June.
The event is set for Saturday, June 29, the day that the world famous Tour de France bicycle race begins. The evening will be dedicated to all things related to the cycling culture as the Captains encourage fans to ride their two-wheelers to the game and take part in a pre-game Tour around the warning track at Classic Park.
Fans attending that night’s Captains game are also encouraged to wear their Livestrong bracelets and take part in several in-game promotions and a special post-game promotion on the field
During the 7 p.m. game, which will begin with a taped recording of Sheryl Crow singing the National Anthem, the Captains will offer fans the chance to use their bracelets in ring-toss games, bracelet stacking and “who can get the most bracelets on their arm” contests that will take place throughout the stadium concourse level.
An in-game Spandex fashion show will also take place on the dugout with fans voting for their favorite fan who dons the daring fabric. The winner of the fashion show will take home a bicycle.
As a way to share special memories of the game, a special station will be set-up on the concourse where fans will be able to write postcards and use United States Postal Service stamps to mail the cards to friends and family.
Following the game, fans who check in at the Captains Fans First Center on the concourse level during the game and show their Livestrong bracelet will receive a special Launch-a-Ball that can be tossed onto the field in an attempt to land the balls in specially-marked areas that represent prizes, including:
Medical First Aid Kits
Cycling Water Bottles
Bike Helmets
Louie Armstrong CD’s
Green Day, featuring lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong, CD’s
Used Livestrong Exercise Equipment
Yellow Captains Shirts
The Captains will donate $1 for every Livestrong bracelet worn by fans to the game to the Livestrong Organization, which continues to fight cancer and seek a cure to the disease.
