Fan lining up to see new Yankee Stadium

The opening of the third Yankee Stadium is today, and fans were out well in advance of the matinee to see the new ballpark.
New York City residents seemingly exist to fulfull their place in destiny, so they’re well-attuned to something like Opening Day for the third Yankee Stadium.

Fans were lined up well before 10 a.m. to get a look at the latest home of the Bronx Bombers, a project. that brings back elements of the original Yankee Stadium while creating a ballpark with all the modern amenities. The Mets had to go outside their history to take elements of Ebbets Field to create Citi FIeld; the Yankees merely needed to head into the vaults to summon the rich history behind the original House that Ruth Built.

(Yes, we know the team and other tout this as the second Yankee Stadium. However, based on conversions we’ve had with former players and a close look at the historical record, we’d argue the original 1920s Yankee Stadium all but disappeared during the 1970s’ "renovation.")

One sad bit of news from today’s opener: Bob Sheppard will not be behind the mike. This had been previously announced, but we’re still sad to see it actually happen.
