Seats, turf going in at new Hops ballpark

Hillsboro Hops

More milestones reached at the new home of the Hillsboro Hops (short season A; Northwest League): seating and synthetic turf are being installed this week and beyond.

The photo above was taken last week and shows the beginning of seat installation on the third-base side of the seating bowl.

Also started: installation of the synthetic turf. The ballpark will feature two different kinds of synthetic turf: the outfield will feature Hellas Sports Construction’s Matrix turf system, while the infield and warning track is composed of Velocity XP, a 2.5-inch deep artificial turf product.

The new $15.2-million ballpark is slated to open June 17, hosting the former Yakima Bears.
