Pacifics to don women’s uniforms next weekend

San Rafael Pacifics dress

Well, this is something you don’t see at the ballpark every day: The San Rafael Pacifics (independent; Pacific Association) are donning uniforms based on those worn in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League to honor breast-cancer survivors.

The Pacifics will wear the uniforms for the June 27 game against the Sonoma Stompers at Albert Park. The Pacifics will be the first men’s professional baseball team in history to wear dresses. Two dress/uniforms will be autographed by Academy Award winner and A League of Their Own star Tom Hanks and auctioned off with the proceeds going to “To Celebrate Life Breast Cancer Foundation,” an all-volunteer breast cancer foundation. Other uniforms will be autographed by the Pacifics team to be auctioned off as well.

San Rafael fashion designer Noy Design created the dress uniforms.

Oher events during the weekend homestand will also honor cancer survivors. But we’re guessing the local television crews will be out in force to see the dresses — and the players wearing them.
