Here’s something you don’t see every day: a Boston Red Sox fan snares a foul ball using nothing but his wits, sharp reflexes and a cup of beer.
The video tells all:
Choosing between a beer and a ball is always a hard decision. It brings us back to the days of Met Stadium and a tradition for a group of Hamline University students: attending opening day for the Minnesota Twins. It was a gorgeous Minnesota day — temps in the high 70s and sunny — and the California Angels were in town. The Twins were cruising to a win, and we were lounging in the left-field bleachers, nursing that last beer of the day, when Ron Jackson launched one our way. Being a poor college student, that Grain Belt was a pretty big part of the monthly budget, and as the ball was coming down, a decision needed to be made between the beer and the memorabilia. Luckily, the ball curved off; the beer was saved.
