The move to TD Ameritrade Park by the Creighton Blue Jays has been a boon when it comes to attracting fans to games, as the team is drawing 8,170 fans a game this season.
Of course, that number is a little skewed: it includes the 22,197 buying tickets for the opening of the ballpark. Take that opening-day crowd out of the equation, and the Blue Jays have still drawn 6,166 fans a game, which would put the program in the top ten for college attendance in the country.
Drawing decent numbers is one thing (and the Blue Jays have been aggressive in working the groups angle as well), but evaluating whether there’s enough revenue to justify the $10,000-per-game base rent is another.
“We have not received a bill from MECA yet,” Athletic Director Bruce Rasmussen said. “After the season, we’ll take a close look at things and will be in a better position to evaluate costs versus revenue.”
