Joe Pott, the Voice of the Gateway Grizzlies since 2002, is leaving the team at the end of the season to take a full-time position with the Athletic Department of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Pott has worked for SIUE Athletics for the past two off-seasons.
“I have been blessed to be known as the “Voice of the Grizzlies,” Pott said. “There aren’t enough words to express my gratitude to Rich Sauget, Steve Gomric, (former General Manager) Tony Funderburg, and the entire Gateway Grizzlies organization.”
“To be able to describe the feats of some of the greatest players in the league, to the greatest fans in the league has been my honor,” Pott added. “I will always cherish my time with the Grizzlies and can’t thank them enough for what they have done for me professionally and personally.”
Pott has been a part of Grizzlies broadcasts since the team’s inaugural 2001 season, first serving as engineer and part-time broadcaster, before moving into the lead role for the 2002 season. His 10 seasons with the Grizzlies is the longest tenure of any broadcaster in Frontier League history.
“Joe has been a vital part of this organization since the beginning,” Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric said. “The Grizzlies would not be the organization they are today without Joe.”
Twice named as the Frontier League’s Broadcaster of the Year, Pott has been behind the microphone for more than 850 Grizzlies games to date. He has broadcast all 17 post-season games in franchise history, including all five during the 2003 championship season. He has called both no-hitters in franchise history, and also broadcast the 2003 Frontier League All-Star Game.
“To have been part of this wonderful organization for 10 years has been a privilege and a pleasure,” Pott said. “I will always be a Grizzlies fan, and a Frontier League fan.”
Pott will remain with the Grizzlies through the end of the 2010 season. He will then assume the full-time duties at SIUE.
