Northwoods League explores Blaine team

The summer-collegiate league once again looks at putting a team in the Twin Cities area.

Blaine (Minn.) officials are looking at a proposal to place a summer-collegiate Northwoods League team at a local high school before working out a final plan for a new home at the National Sports Center.

The proposal, they say, comes from an existing Northwoods League owner (the most likely: Joel Sutherland, successful in St. Cloud and Brainerd).

Blaine is on the northern side of the Twin Cities. The National Sports Center is a large complex of sports field, mostly soccer-related; it houses a United States Soccer Federation team as well. Right now there's nothing appropriate for a baseball team, so NSC would need to work out a deal to upgrade an existing team for summer-collegiate baseball.
