For the 10th consecutive year the New Britain Rock Cats enjoyed an attendance increase. While there is playoff baseball still to be played at New Britain Stadium, the New Britain Rock Cats (Class AA; Eastern League) concluded their 2009 Regular Season by posting their best total season attendance mark ever: 366,682. This figure eclipses the Eastern League club’s previous best-ever total season attendance of 365,756, set just last year (2008), despite uncharacteristically rainy weather and three fewer home openings this season.
Rock Cats fans turned out in record per-game numbers this year as well. New Britain had 66 openings in 2009 and attracted a per-game average crowd of 5,556. This, too, is a new franchise high and represents a 5 percent increase (+256 fans per game) above the 2008 average of 5,300 per game (in 69 dates).
Thanks to their highly supportive fan base, the Rock Cats have been able to increase their annual attendance figures in one category or another for 10 consecutive seasons, the longest current streak in the Eastern League. Over the ten-year stretch, the annual attendance at Rock Cats games has increased 107 percent — from 177,026 (1999) to 366,682 (2009).
