The Tri-City ValleyCats (short season; NY-Penn League) once again set a season-attendance record: For the sixth consecutive year, the ValleyCats eclipsed its overall attendance by drawing 145,976 fans to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium this season, an average of 4,293 a game.
The ValleyCats, in its eighth season, entered the final game of the season needing 634 fans to break the record the organization set in 2008 of 140,631. The ‘Cats shattered that mark, drawing a sellout crowd of 5,978 for Fan Appreciation Night.
Despite the abundance of rain this summer and an uncertain economy, the ValleyCats established new standards in every attendance figure. The single game record was shattered on the Fourth of July with 6,838 fans and five games rank in the top 10 of the ValleyCats all-time crowds. The ValleyCats attracted a record 12 sellouts, surpassing the record of nine set last year.
“Breaking our attendance record for the sixth consecutive season is absolutely remarkable,” said ValleyCats Vice President/General Manager Rick Murphy. “To eclipse the record given this time of economic uncertainty combined with unprecedented amounts of rain is truly a testament to our dedicated fans and staff. The outlook for future growth is extremely promising.”
