Bridgeport Bluefish catcher John Nathans is suing former MLB All-Star and Long Island Duck Jose Offerman over a nasty bat-wielding incident that ended both careers.Bridgeport Bluefish (independent; Atlantic League) catcher John Nathans is suing former MLB All-Star and Long Island Duck Jose Offerman over a nasty bat-wielding incident that ended both careers.
Offerman took exception to some agressive pitching and went after Nathans and pitcher Matt Beech, striking and injuring both of them. Offerman was later arrested for assault; in a plea deal he agreed to undergo anger-management counseling and pay the medical expenses of both Beech and Nathans.
But Nathans is suing for more: he says his playing career is over and that he suffers daily from ailments stemming from being batted in the head:
"I have tons of headaches every day, vomiting every week," Nathan told the Danbury News-Times. "There’s not a day that I don’t have symptoms. There are days I’m completely debilitated."
