Jim Corcoran, the owner of the Wenatchee AppleSox (summer collegiate; West Coast League), wants to see historic Recreation Park rebuilt and house his team as well as the local high-school squad.
Recreation Park was built in 1937 and was the home of the Wenatchee Chiefs for decades. The AppleSox play at a ballpark at a local community college and would like to see Rec Park rebuilt for $5 million.
It’s not as easy as that, though. The local school district owns the ballpark, so ownership would need to be transferred to the city via a land swap. Then funding from the state would be to be procured — and that probably won’t happen until the 2010 session.
