Today was the first day of workouts for Division I squads, with virtually every major program taking the field for that first practice. There are a lot of good stories out there in college baseball this season: the University of Oregon is fielding a squad for the first time since 1981, while Ray Tanner’s USC Gamecocks will be playing at the new, $36-million Carolina Stadium. LSU — which will open the season in a new Alex Box Stadium — enters the season as the number-one squad in the nation, led by five Louisville Slugger preseason All-Americans.
