Despite studies indicating a garbage burner next to the new Minnesota Twins ballpark would not impact game attendees, Hennepin County is planning on spending $500,000 on technology to reduce odors.

The spending is part of a larger multimillion-dollar improvement at the Hennepin County garbage burner, which will improve the area around the garbage burner.

When the location of the Twins ballpark was pitched to elected officials, they were told smells from the garbage burner would not impact fans. But the location of the ballpark was slightly changed after the study, putting a concourse within 100 feet of an entrance where trucks drop off garbage daily. After ballpark construction workers complained about smells from the deposit area, talks were initiated with the county to mitigate the smells.
