Major renovations are on the way at UPMC Park, as the Erie SeaWolves (Class AA; Eastern League) prepare for a slate of upgrades that will be completed in 2020.

UPMC Park has received several improvements of late, as the playing surface was completely overhauled prior to the 2019 campaign and a new videoboard was installed during the season. More upgrades are in the works, with the next round of renovations slated to improve a number of fan amenities.

During this offseason’s round of construction, a new entrance plaza will be added down the left-field line, while a new a multi-level structure will include a team store and offices on the first floor, with an upper-level club area connecting to the adjacent Erie Insurance Arena. Other changes are on the way, including improved concession and restroom facilities, lighting and concourse upgrades, an expanded kid’s zone, suite renovations, and more. Ground was broken for the next round of construction on Monday, with improvements set for the 2020 season. More from YourErie.com:

“They’re going to be surprised, I think, when they see it and it’s going to be great because they’ll have a store for both teams in here. It’s just going to be better for the community. It will look better,” said Casey Wells, Executive Director, Erie Events.

The new entrance plaza will be located on East 9th Street. Inside, there will be the Seawolves ticket office, offices and a team store located on the first level. The second level will be home to the Otters.

“We are really happy and thrilled with the fact that this is going to be better for the players, better for the owners, better for the staffs of both teams, as well as the patron experience,” said Wells.

UPMC Park was originally known as Jerry Uht Park when it opened in 1995. The SeaWolves were members of the Short Season A New York-Penn League at the time, with Double-A action arriving to Erie in 1999.
