Big milestone for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League): the team welcomed the 7-millionth fan to Security Service Field before Friday night’s game.
The lucky fan: Derek Miller, a native of Colorado Springs. Miller was attending the game with his son Gabe (2) and wife Courtney when they were stopped just inside the gate and met by a large contingent of Sky Sox staffers and much fanfare.
For being the seven millionth fan, Miller was awarded with a gift basket including Sky Sox merchandise, a signed team baseball and two season tickets for the 2016 season. In addition, Miller was invited onto the field before the game to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
“It was a total shock but very fun,” said Miller. “I’ve been coming to Sky Sox games for years but it was the first time for my son at Security Service Field so it’s a special and exciting night for our family.”
Over the 28-year history of Security Service Field, the Sky Sox have enjoyed tremendous fan support. Most recently, the Sky Sox surpassed 300,000 fans for the seventh-straight season in 2014.
