Improvements approved for Modern Woodmen Park

Quad Cities River BanditsIn the end, the vote wasn’t close: the Davenport (Ia.) City Council voted 9-1 to fund improvements at Modern Woodmen Park, home of the Quad Cities River Bandits (Low Class A; Midwest League).

The improvements, as part of a new Modern Woodmen Park lease, would spruce up the left-field area of the ballpark with a new deck over a utility area and another new deck off the concourse; both areas are now dead space, and the goal is to convert the dead space to usable areas. In addition, a new amusement area, complete with Ferris wheel, is set for installation in 2014. From Quad-Cities Online:

“That park is used 55 days a year for baseball,” Mayor Gluba said. “With the city’s approach, it’s going to be more of an amusement facility the rest of the time.

“Days when the team is not playing baseball, there will be amusement rides,” he said. “It will probably open it (ballpark) up 100 more days a year. It will end up attracting more people to Davenport.”
