Though the Milwaukee Brewers remain unhappy with the condition of Joe Davis Stadium, GM Doug Melvin was in town to discuss player-development renewal with the Huntsville Stars (Class AA; Southern League).
There are only six open affiliations at the Class AA level, and we expect half of them — Binghamton/Mets, Akron/Indians, Jacksonville/Marlins — to renew. So, realistically, there are only two other Class AA teams on the market if you’re Melvin: the Arkansas Travelers and the Jackson Generals.
Which is why he was in Huntsville talking with the Stars folks, with plans to chat later with Stars owner Miles Prentice. From the way it sounds, the pair may sign up for two more years.
