It’s a whole new look for the Staten Island Yankees (short season A; NY-Penn League), as new ownership and a new front office takes control of the team.
Gone are Mandalay Baseball Properties and Joe Ricciutti, the 2008 Ballpark Digest Executive of the Year who turned the franchise around after owner New York Yankees mismanaged the team and forged uneasy relationships with the city over Richmond County Bank Ballpark at St. George rent and operations. The team’s new president and GM is Jane Rogers, and the team’s owners — Nick Tiller, Glenn Reicin, Christian Zann and an unnamed fourth partner, operating as Nostalgic Partners LLC — say they’lll put almost a million dollars into ballpark renovations, including suite upgrades, bathroom refurbishing, concessions overhauls and more.
Don’t look for any name changes; if anything, the new owners are doubling down on the New York Yankees connection. The Yankees and the Steinbrenner Family Trust retain a small share of the team. Legends Hospitality, the New York Yankees/Dallas Cowboys firm, has taken over concessions. The team store will feature even more New York Yankees items: “It’s going to be a New York Yankee store with Staten Island products,” Reicin told the Staten Island Advance.
