Rangers, Reliant Energy gun for sunglasses world record

Texas RangersThis seems to be the year for Major League Baseball teams shooting for obscure world records: tonight the Texas Rangers will attempt to set the mark for “Most People Wearing Sunglasses in the Dark,” as part of a promotion to push a new solar-energy service from sponsor Reliant Energy.

Fans at The Ballpark in Arlington will be asked to don their sunglasses at the end of the sixth inning of tonight’s game and wear them for 10 minutes as the sun makes an appearance in sections 314 and 315. Reliant will provide 30,000 sunglasses to fans as they arrive for the game. An official adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be onsite to immediately confirm the successful attempt.

Seats in the sections where the sun will make its appearance will be occupied by approximately 500 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, friends and family members from Circle Ten Council, Boy Scouts of America who will be guests of Reliant Energy.

As you’ll recall, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim set a world record earlier this season for most people wearing Mexican wrestling masks.
