BlueClaws’ prescription for post-season blues: a blood drive

Attracting fans to post-season games is always a challenge. The Lakewood BlueClaws hope to change this with a promotion that exchanges tickets for blood donations.

Attracting fans to post-season games is always a challenge. The Lakewood BlueClaws (Low Class A; Sally League) hope to change this with a promotion that exchanges tickets for blood donations.

One with some pretty high-profile participants. The team has joined forces with Central Jersey Blood Center, with Chief Operating Officer Ryan Ragan living on the roof of FirstEnergy Park while Central Jersey Blood Center collects pints of blood in front of the ballpark.

Ragan will go onto the roof on September 7, the last day of the BlueClaws regular season. He will stay up there until the first pitch of Lakewood’s first home playoff game, Friday, September 11 at 7:05, or until 300 pints of blood are collected, whichever comes first.

All fans that donate blood during this drive will receive one general admission ticket to the September 11 playoff game. They will also be recognized before the game in a parade and get to stay on the field for the National Anthem. Also, the BlueClaws and Central Jersey Blood Center will present rally towels to the first 2,000 fans at each playoff game.
