Most fans didn't know much about her, but Sue Burns was the largest shareholder in the San Francisco Giants and a quiet presence with the team. She passed away Sunday at the age of 58, the victim of cancer.
Burns and her husband, Harmon Burns (a founder of Franklin Templeton), bought into the Giants in 1992 to prevent a move of the team to Florida. Over the years they bought out the shares of other Giants investors. She was a constant presence with the team: faithfully showing up to every game and hosting an annual picnic for players and coaches.
The shares of the Giants will stay with the family, passing on to her daughters and son-in-law.
