Modern Woodmen Park gets new playing surface

A new turf, bleacher backs and drink rails are all being added to the home of the Quad Cities River Bandits when the team is out of town.
A new turf, bleacher backs and drink rails are all being added to the home of the Quad Cities River Bandits (Low Class A; Midwest League) when the team is out of town.

The new turf has been needed since the ballpark was revamped several years ago; outfield drainage has been an issue, so the old turf was stripped out Saturday, with the new turf put down today. In addition, the field will be leveled out, with sink holes in the outfield filled in.

Also on tap for ballpark improvements: backs will be installed on the bleacher seats — a feature requested by fans during the team’s offseason promotions — and a drink rail will be installed in the outfield.
