Dash announces new mascot; still working on new ballpark

Bolt is the name of the new Winston-Salem Dash (High Class A; Carolina League) mascot, but he’ll begin the year at Ernie Shore Field — and it’s still not clear how long he’ll entertain fans there.

The team unveiled the new mascot at an event Friday. At that time team president Kevin Terry was asked about the state of the team’s new ballpark, still slated to open sometime in 2009.

It’s still up in the air when the team will leave Ernie Shore Field and move to the new downtown facility, he said, adding he’s sure the team will end up there before the end of the season. That’s quite the wide target date, and at some point the team may need to suck it up and admit there’s little chance of a 2009 opening for the facility. The deal to have Billy Prim buy out his share of the Dash and the ballpark from his brother-in-law, Andrew "Flip" Filipowski, is still not finalized.
