Reuteman as team president.
The Sand Gnats ended the 2008 season with an expired lease, but team officials and the city didn’t seem too much in a hurry about working out a new deal until 2009. Under the new lease, the Sand Gnats will pay $25,000 annually in 2009 and 2010. The old lease called for a base rate of $10,000 plus a cut of the concessions, bringing the total to around $20,000 annually.
The team also announced the hiring of R.C. Reuteman in the newly created position of team president. Reuteman is certainly a veteran in the baseball world: most recently he was president and GM of the Worcester Tornadoes (independent; Can-Am Association), but before that he served in the front office of several teams, including the Tidewater Tides (Class AAA; International League), the Binghamton Mets (Class AA; Eastern League), Brooklyn Cyclones (short season; NY-Penn League) and the Columbus Catfish (Low Class A; Sally League).
