Dunkin’ Donuts Park Will Not Open for 2016 Season

Hartford Yard Goats

Delays to Dunkin’ Donuts Park will force the Hartford Yard Goats to spend the rest of the season on the road, the Eastern League announced today.

This outcome had become increasingly expected. A dispute between the City of Hartford and ballpark developer Center Plan Cos. and DoNo Hartford was recently put under court review. The developer contends that it was wrongfully terminated from the ballpark project and that no other entity should finish construction, while the city has continually justified the cancellation of the contract by citing a poor job performance.

Dunkin’ Donuts Park was to have opened this April, but was eventually delayed to May 8 and then again to May 31. The developer failed to meet the occupancy deadline for the May 31 opening, just weeks before the city terminated the contract. There has been a great deal of uncertainty about when construction will resume, which made it likely that the Yard Goats would spend the remainder of the year on the road.
