New Morgantown ballpark advances

Proposed Morgantown ballpark

A new ballpark for West Virginia University and potentially a short-season-A team easily passed another hurdle after the West Virginia Senate unanimously approved the creation of a TIF district needed for financing.

The proposal must now pass the House and be signed by the governor. Given the ease it passed the Senate, there doesn’t seem to be much opposition to the plan.

The district applies to University Town Center, a development from Mon-View LLC. A new $20-million ballpark for the Mountaineers would be in the mix, with most of the funding coming from TIF funds with the university and potential minor-league team also participating.
