Proponents of a new ballpark and convention center in downtown Huntington, W.V., say they will not meet an end-of-the-year deadline to apply for federal stimulus funds for the project but will continue to pursue private financing for the project.
The $200-million RiverPlace project would also include a hotel and restaurant. It would serve as the home of Marshall University baseball and an unnamed summer-collegiate team, presumably in the Prospect League.
The developers informed Cabell County that they would not meet the Dec. 31 deadline for a grant application. Instead, they will pursue private financing for the project.
