City officials are moving forward with plans to install extended netting at Sioux Falls Stadium, as a bid will be put out for a project at the Sioux Falls Canaries (independent; American Association) home.
Under the current scope, it is expected that netting at Sioux Falls Stadium will be extened to provide coverage for fans sitting above the dugouts. As part of this process, the city is expected next month to put out a bid for the project, as facility operator ASM Global requests the change to the ballpark.
It is expected that the project could cost as much as $120,000. More from the Argus Leader:
The project will extend the netting from the existing backstop netting system along the 1st and 3rd base line that right now ends at the dugout.
The new nets will go all the way over the dugouts, aimed at protecting spectators who sit above the dugout.
ASM Global, the city’s management company that operates the Sioux Falls Stadium along with the Denny Sanford Premier Center, the Convention Center and the Arena, is requesting the additional netting at the publicly-owned venue.
It has been expected that extended netting could be on tap at Sioux Falls Stadium, as reports over the summer noted the possibility of making the change for safety reasons. Teams at several levels of professional baseball, from Major League Baseball to affiliated Minor League Baseball and the independent ranks, extended netting during the 2019 season, and a few have already announced changes to their ballparks for 2020.
