Rangers Weighing Affordable Globe Life Field Seating

The Texas Rangers appear poised to incorporate lower-priced seating options into the upcoming Globe Life Field, aimed at providing a family friendly offering.

Currently under construction, the retractable-roof Globe Life Field is on schedule to open for the 2020 Major League Baseball season. Rising season ticket prices have been a point of concern for some fans ahead of Globe Life Field’s opening, but the Rangers are exploring a lower-priced alternative to the ballpark’s higher-end seating options.

Exact details on the ballpark’s offerings will not be made final until it is much closer to its debut, but the lower-priced offerings could provide an option that is friendly to families. Seats could be priced as low as the $9-$15 range, according to a recent update from the Rangers. More from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:

The Texas Rangers have received criticism from long-time season ticket holders over the higher prices at the retractable-roof ballpark Globe Life Field scheduled to open next year.

But Rob Matwick, the Texas Rangers executive vice president for business operations, said the new stadium will still have family friendly prices when it opens in 2020.

While premium all inclusive seats for high-end corporate customers may go for $300-400 per game, Matwick said the team is considering pricing some seats in the $9 to $15 range.

“We understand we’ve got to have seats for families,” Matwick said.

Globe Life Field is being constructed adjacent to the existing Globe Life Park, which will host its last season for the Rangers in 2019 but is expected to remain operational after the team departs. Once Globe Life Field opens, it will be MLB’s first new ballpark since the Atlanta Braves debuted SunTrust Park in 2017.
