With construction on the upcoming ballpark continuing to make progress, the Texas Rangers released new Globe Life Field renderings on Thursday.
The retractable-roof Globe Life Field is being planned to debut in 2020, when it will replace the adjacent open-air Globe Life Park as the home of the Rangers. In recent months, the team has been making some major decisions about the future ballpark–including January’s announcement that a synthetic playing surface would be installed–and provided more details with Thursday’s unveiling of new renderings.
As showcased in the latest renderings, the Rangers and design firm HKS are planning for Globe Life Field to have a look and feel that reflects Texas. This intention will be reflected in some of Globe Life Field’s distinct design features, as well as the materials used in the construction of the ballpark. More from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“We wanted to create a kind of architecture that’s not only responsive but, quite frankly, is unique nationally to other ballparks,” [HKS senior vice president and principal designer of Globe Life Field Brian] Trubey said.
Among the materials from Texas being utilized include: steel from Justin, curtainwall system from Alba, masonry veneer from Denison, precast walls from Corsicana, and limestone from Lampasas.
Trubey said HKS did a “great deal” of research within Globe Life Park to determine some of the features of the new stadium.
“What we wanted to do was understand the things we loved about Globe Life Park and wanted to understand some of the things we would improve,” he said. “We knew we wanted to have arches, we wanted to use Texas materials. … The existing ballpark looks in on itself. We wanted to create a ballpark that is very open all the time.

Ground was broken for the ballpark’s construction in late September 2017, and it has been making steady progress ever since. Globe Life Field will tie into the existing Texas Live! mixed-use development, while being surrounded by venues that include the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, the Arlington Convention Center, and Globe Life Park–which the Rangers and Arlington officials are expected to preserve in some form. Globe Life Field will be MLB’s first new ballpark since the Atlanta Braves’ SunTrust Park opened in 2017.
