When it opens for the Texas Rangers, the upcoming Globe Life Field will likely offer wider seats than what are available at the team’s current home.
Scheduled to open in 2020, the retractable-roof Globe Life Field will replace Globe Life Park as the Rangers’ home ballpark. Various details about the upcoming facility have been released since its groundbreaking last September, including new information on its seating arrangement.
At this point, the Rangers are preparing to install seats at the new ballpark that are wider than those at Globe Life Park. Several details about Globe Life Field’s seating still need to be resolved, but the Rangers have asked ballpark architect HKS to design seats that are one-to-two inches wider than the seats at their current home. More from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“We have not sized every seat but we have asked HKS to design the seats to be 1-2 inches wider than at Globe Life Park,” said Rangers spokesman John Blake. “All seats at Globe Life Park are 18-19 inches wide. Seat width in both parks can and will vary depending on the geometry of the row or seating section. The goal would be for a 20-inch wide seat in pretty much all locations.”
That’s good news for those fans who enjoy the fat-filled, high-caloric food offered by the Rangers, including Texas Snowballs — brisket rolled into balls, dipped in funnel-cake batter and deep-fried before being topped with powdered sugar. Because who doesn’t like powdered sugar with brisket, right?
The 40,000 seats have yet to be ordered but other choices on the look and feel of the new stadium, which is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2020 season, have yet to be made. said Jack Hill, senior vice president of project development in an update posted by the City of Arlington.
At its current construction pace, Globe Life Field will be the first new ballpark to open in the majors since the debut of Atlanta’s SunTrust Park in 2017.
