Segra Stadium Ribbon Cutting Set for April 13

Details are emerging on an initial event at Segra Stadium, home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (High A; Carolina League), as officials will stage a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 13.

The Woodpeckers will play their first game at the brand-new Segra Stadium on April 18, when they host the Carolina Mudcats. Ahead of that date, Fayetteville officials will gather at the new downtown ballpark for a special April 13 event that will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled for noon EST, the event will provide fans with an opportunity to tour the new ballpark. Officials have been discussing the gathering as a way to highlight Segra Stadium before its first regular-season game, and some details emerged during a meeting of the city’s Baseball Committee on Thursday. More from the Fayetteville Observer:

The ribbon cutting ceremony is set for noon on April 13.

That’s also when the public is invited to visit and tour the facilities for the Fans First Look event.

City Councilman Jim Arp said kids from area teams are expected to come for that event. When they walk onto the field, “that’s going to be a moment they never forget.”

The Woodpeckers will arrive at the new ballpark, which is being positioned as the anchor of a larger downtown redevelopment initiative, after playing the past two seasons as the Buies Creek Astros at Campbell University’s Jim Perry Stadium. It will be the first time Fayetteville, NC has had an affiliated Minor League Baseball team of its own since the Cape Fear Crocs (Low A; Sally League) relocated to Lakewood, NJ after the 2000 season.
