Though the ballpark designs are still preliminary, the City of Fayetteville has decided on the layout of its proposed High-A Carolina League facility.
When HKS was brought in to develop preliminary designs for the facility, its main task was to deliver two separate concepts. Each rendering presented the ballpark in a different layout and, thus, with distinct main entrances.
On Monday, Fayetteville officials opted to place the main entrance along Hay Street. As is seen from the rendering above, this orientation would mean that most fans will enter from behind home plate. Connecting the ballpark to Hay Street is a public plaza, which will run between the Prince Charles Hotel and future development. The alternative to this plan was to place the main entrance off of Maiden Lane, which was shown in one of the renderings we published on Friday.
At this point, there is still some time to go until the final designs become clearer. Fayetteville is still working to finalize its lease agreement with the Houston Astros, and the facility is not scheduled to open until 2019, with construction not expected to begin until next summer.
