Yes, it’s a terrible fashion statement, but it makes for an utterly brilliant Minor League Baseball promo, as the State College Spikes (Short Season A; NY-Penn League) prepare to honor the “Romp-him” with a June event.
If you’re not a fashion maven, you may not be aware of the latest fashion trend for men, Rompers have been worn by women for years, but they’re being adapted for men, with the result being romp-hims. The Spikes are bringing the Salute to the “Romp-him” on Wednesday, June 28, when the Batavia Muckdogs visit Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Spikes will begin selling romp-hims shortly at the ballparks — you can preorder by calling 814/272-1711, and the promo should only fuel demand for the unique garment.
Highlights of the tribute will include:
- All fans wearing a romper or “romp-him” will receive half-off their ticket – even though you can’t take half off a romper
- A special spotlight on the original male romper worn by Sean Connery as James Bond in “Goldfinger”
- The first-of-its-kind Romper Cam
- A Romper Fashion Show during the night
“The comfort and convenience of a Spikes game cannot be denied. Likewise, the comfort and convenience of a ‘romp-him’ cannot be denied, either,” said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker in a press statement. “We feel it’s a natural fit for us.”
