We have the results of the epic Bacon vs. Tacos promo launched by the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Class AAA; International League) and the Fresno Grizzlies (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League), and the results are clear: Bacon is Better.
The joint promotion was set up as a grudge match between Team Bacon (IronPigs) and Team Tacos (Grizzlies). In recent years, both teams have attracted attention for their food-related uniforms and promotions. The IronPigs in 2014 unveiled their Smell The Change initiative, which featured a bacon strip logo as part of a bacon-themed uniform. The following year, the Grizzlies became the Fresno Tacos for a game, a theme that has since been expanded by the club.
Fans were asked to express their preferences on a site set up specifically for the occasion. Of course, you can put bacon on your tacos — a win-win! — but for the purposes of settling a blood feud, fans were presented with the binary choice of bacon or tacos. In the end, bacon was the choice of the people.
As a result of losing the competition, the Grizzlies will wear a “Team Bacon” cap during a June home game.
